We’re moving to a new location for 2015

The news is true, we’re moving to a new location for 2015. In fact we may be moving to more than one location. It has always been our goal to offer this Festival in more than one location and with any luck 2015 will be the year of change.

Keep checking back as we reveal the new dates, locations and artists that will be featured in the next edition of The MAGIC Festival.

Improv and your magic – Workshop

Sunday June 22nd, 3:00 PM Second Storey Theatre

Course Description

We as young adults are told not to play and be serious. This is instilled in us as we grow up. Well playing is something improvisers get to do regularly. It takes a lot of practice and patience to shake off the rules we adhere to in our daily lives but if we feel safe and are surrounded by supportive, positive caring people we will be able to play freely and have fun. The rules of improv can be applied directly to life and help open doors to new possibilities.

Whether you have been performing for years or never at all you will gain some new insight and walk away from this course with an understanding of the foundations of improv. You will learn to have more stage presence, better audience interaction, and an over all a stronger performance. You will learn many exercises to use to help bring yourself out of your shell. Time flies when you are having fun.

Bio:

Graham Myers is the Owner and Artistic Director of Second Storey Theatre and a founding member of table23 Comedy established in 1999. Graham has been teaching improv since 1998 at such places as; The Douglas College Theatre Program, Place Des Arts, Learning Disabilities Association, Canucks Autism Network, Welcome Home Addiction Recovery Acadamy, UBCimprov and the City of Port Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Coquitlam and Port Moody. He brings a passion and expertise like no other and truly believes the arts unlock something great in everyone involved.

He has had the great pleasure of working with the likes of Unexpected Productions, The Upfront Theatre, Vancouver Theatresports, Instant Theatre Company, C is For Comedy, The Bobbers, Urban Improv, Impromaniacs, Yuk Yuk’s, Canadian Improv Games, UBCimprov and Lafflines. He has also been a part of the Vancouver International Improv Festival, The Seattle Festival of Improv, as well as the Edmonton Fringe Festival. He was a runner up in the Vicious Games hosted by Yuk Yuk’s, and won in both Ultimate Improv Challenges and Cage Matches. He loves to perform and hopes to do so until he’s so wrinkly that he is mistaken for a human prune.

Still not convinced? Here are some testimonials from past participants of the program:

Graham’s no nonsense, fast-paced and fun workshops helped my Improv group take their performances to the next level. His passion for improv is immediately apparent and he has as much fun teaching as the students do learning and performing. The skills he teaches are easily accessible for a beginner group of Acting students, but equally useful to more experienced improvisers. He teaches in a way that is very clear, and easy for the students to follow, but offers them high level skills that can be applied to all types of theatre, not just improv. I highly recommend Graham’s workshops.

Graham Myers is a one-of-a-kind guy. His leadership style is directive and effective and he supports both the individual and the group. Graham is straightforward and honest and when teaching he not only speaks his own truth, but pushes others to do the same, both on the stage and off.

I attended my first Improv workshop taught by Graham Myers at Second Storey Theatre last Sunday. While I was waiting to get started I was nervous and wondering what I had got myself into. My nerves were quickly put in check as soon as we got started. Graham’s approach to teaching is clear, inventive and accepting. I appreciated Graham’s ability to know when to give someone the confidence to go for it. If you are thinking of giving Improv a try I highly recommend the supportive environment created by Graham at Second Storey Theatre.
